Zebra Mussels

Zebra Mussels were accidentally introduced in the Great Lakes in the mid 1980s. Since that time these pests have spread throughout the area between the Appalachia and Rocky Mountains. The  Mississippi and Ohio Rivers are infested to the point that Zebra Mussels are causing problems at industrial and municipal plants that use raw water. Zebra Mussels have invaded the Tennessee River to points above  Knoxville, TN and their populations are rapidly expanding. Zebra mussels cause problems where raw water is used and they also attach to boats and other water related structures causing millions of dollars in damages.

AMERICAN AQUATICS staff is experienced in the identification and control of Zebra Mussels at a variety of industrial plants, particularly in power plants. We manage a Zebra Mussel lab where we identify and enumerate Zebra Mussel veligers from samples collected throughout the United States. We can help you establish a monitoring plan at your facility to see if these pests have invaded your plant  water supply. We can then come to your plant and assess control strategies that will have minimal impact on your operations.
